Zandstra TANGO Nordic skates are high-quality Dutch-made touring skates for natural ice. They can be used with NNN, NNN BC and SNS cross-country ski boots as well as with suitable winter boots via clamp-on bindings. The T-shaped aluminum profile and tall blade give good clearance in snow and over bumps while maintaining stability and control.

The skates are designed for screw-mounted bindings and accept NNN/PROLINK, NNN BC, SNS and many backcountry or winter-boot bindings. A dedicated bolt kit is included for mounting the bindings securely to the frame. If you install bindings yourself, you will need a Phillips screwdriver and an M8 spanner, and you should carefully follow the instructions supplied by the manufacturer to ensure safe and durable attachment.

The T-profile aluminum frame is both stiff and lightweight, keeping the blade firmly in contact with the ice and making edging precise. The high blade profile helps you glide smoothly across snow patches, cracks and rough sections of ice with less risk of catching. Thanks to this versatile construction, TANGO skates work well for relaxed touring as well as more energetic skating when you choose a suitable blade length and binding position.

For sporty skating on smooth ice, it is usually best to choose a shorter blade and mount the binding as far forward as possible, making the Nordic skates more agile and responsive. For a more upright skating position and rougher ice, a longer blade with the binding mounted slightly further back will add stability and help the tip ride over irregularities more easily. A blade that is too long for the skater’s height and boot size may feel slow and difficult to handle, especially in corners.

Recommended boots: we suggest using TANGO Nordic skates with boots that have solid ankle support and a stiff sole – skating, combi or touring cross-country boots. With winter boots, choose compatible clamp-on bindings that hold the heel firmly against the frame so that the boot does not lift off the skate when edging or pushing.

Care: avoid walking on rocky or abrasive surfaces in your skates, as this quickly damages the edges and shortens their life. Plastic blade guards are included and should be used during transport and storage. To prevent rust, always dry the blades thoroughly after use and before fitting the guards. Do not store the skates for long periods in damp environments, including the interior of a car.

Safety on natural ice: as a rule of thumb, safe ice thickness begins at around 10 cm. On deep natural waters you should go with companions, especially at the beginning and end of the season when ice conditions are less predictable. Neck-worn ice picks make it much easier to climb out if you fall through. A whistle helps you signal for help, and a throw line allows safer rescue of someone in the water. Pack warm, dry spare clothes – such as wool base layers and socks – in a waterproof bag in your backpack so you can change quickly if you get wet.
