Bike Chain Hot Wax Additive REX TRANSFRORMER 40g

REX Transformer is a specialized hot-wax additive that allows you to hot-wax a factory-new bicycle chain without first removing the factory grease with solvents. It eliminates one of the most time-consuming parts of chain waxing and makes preparing a new chain considerably faster and easier. The package contains four 10 g Transformer blocks, with one block intended for treating one new factory-lubricated chain.

Factory grease serves an important purpose while the chain is stored and transported, protecting its metal surfaces against corrosion. During hot waxing, however, the same grease can become a problem because it prevents the wax from properly reaching and adhering to the internal surfaces of the chain. A chain waxed directly over the original factory grease may look properly treated, but the lubrication effect may not last as long as it should.

REX Transformer does not simply cover the factory grease with wax – it changes the properties of the grease itself. Inside the hot wax bath, the Transformer block converts the factory lubricant into a wax-compatible structure so it no longer acts as an oily barrier between the chain surfaces and the wax. The result is a clean and properly hot-waxed chain without the traditional multi-stage solvent cleaning process.

In REX testing, chains treated with Transformer performed better than chains waxed directly over factory grease, a competing factory-grease treatment solution, and a solvent-cleaned reference chain. The product was developed together with the University of Helsinki as part of a joint research and development program.

Transformer is designed for use with REX hot wax and the Rex Pro Waxing Device. To treat a new chain, place one Transformer block, the new chain and REX hot wax into the waxing device. Heat the wax in Boost mode to 125°C. Once the required temperature has been reached, agitate the chain thoroughly in the molten wax and leave it immersed for approximately 20 minutes, moving it occasionally.

After treatment, allow the wax to cool to 75°C. Agitate the chain once more, remove it from the wax and allow excess wax to drip back into the container. Once the chain has cooled completely, it is ready to install on the bicycle. The same batch of wax can later be reused for rewaxing chains.
