Shimano XTR PD-M9220 are premium double-sided SPD mountain bike pedals engineered for demanding enduro, all-mountain and trail riding. Part of the Shimano XTR M9200 series, these pedals combine outstanding stability, secure traction and precise pedalling control, providing confidence on steep descents, technical trails and unpredictable terrain.

Compared with the previous-generation PD-M9120, the new pedals feature a wider contact area between the shoe and pedal, improving foot support and overall bike control. The raised pedal platform promotes more consistent contact with the shoe sole, reducing unwanted movement and enhancing stability during aggressive off-road riding.

The integrated protective cage provides additional foot support even when the rider is not clipped into the SPD mechanism. Four traction pins on each side of the pedal improve shoe grip when unclipped, helping riders maintain control in situations where they need to temporarily disengage from the binding. This is particularly useful on rocky descents, loose corners and technical sections where quick foot movement is essential.

The double-sided Shimano SPD binding system allows riders to clip in from either side, making engagement quick and convenient. The PD-M9220 is optimised for use with the new Shimano CL-MT001 Trail/Enduro cleats, which make engagement easier in demanding riding situations. The pedals are also compatible with existing Shimano SPD cleats, although cleat spacers may be required depending on the cycling shoe model.

Adjustable SPD release tension allows riders to customise the force required to disengage their shoes according to experience and personal preference. This makes it possible to achieve an appropriate balance between secure engagement and quick release.

The durable anodised aluminium pedal body and strong chromoly steel axle are engineered to withstand demanding mountain bike use. A robust sealing system helps protect the internal mechanism against dirt, dust and moisture, supporting smooth operation and long-lasting reliability in challenging conditions.

Shimano XTR PD-M9220 pedals pair particularly well with Shimano GE-series mountain bike shoes, featuring soles optimised for trail and enduro riding. Weighing approximately 439 grams per pair, they offer an excellent balance of stability, durability and high-performance functionality.
