Overview
Pedals Shimano Dura-Ace PD-R9300 SPD-SLR +4 mm
Shimano Dura-Ace PD-R9300 SPD-SLR are Shimano's next-generation flagship road pedals, engineered for professional athletes and ambitious competitive cyclists. Combining exceptional stiffness, minimal rotational resistance and highly efficient power transfer, they deliver uncompromising performance during powerful sprints, demanding climbs and long-distance racing. This version features a 4 mm longer pedal axle, increasing the distance between the rider's foot and crank arm compared with the standard version.
The new Shimano SPD-SLR interface has been developed as an integrated platform, with pedals, cleats and cycling shoes engineered to function together as a complete system. Shimano has optimised every power transfer contact point, from shoe to cleat and from cleat to pedal. This creates a more direct and stable connection between rider and bicycle, minimising unnecessary movement and improving pedalling efficiency.
One of the most significant improvements of the SPD-SLR system is its 2.3 mm lower stack height compared with the previous SPD-SL interface. The redesigned pedal and cleat connection brings the foot closer to the pedal axle, creating a more stable pedalling platform and improving power transfer. The extra-wide pedal platform provides excellent foot support and stability even under maximum load. Precise engagement between pedal and cleat helps minimise unwanted play and improves overall bike control.
Shimano Dura-Ace PD-R9300 pedals are 11% stiffer than the Ultegra PD-R8200. An integrated stainless steel contact plate increases interface stiffness while improving cleat engagement. The wider bearing arrangement distributes loads more evenly, supporting more direct and efficient power transfer during high-intensity efforts and powerful sprints.
Internally, the pedals feature a heat-treated nickel-chromoly steel axle and optimised bearing surfaces. This construction provides 53% lower rotational resistance compared with the Ultegra PD-R8200. Reduced bearing friction ensures smoother rotation and helps minimise energy losses, making these pedals particularly suitable for competitive road cycling.
Faster and easier clip-in is another major advantage of the SPD-SLR platform. A larger engagement area and reduced 10.5° clip-in angle allow riders to engage the pedals more naturally and quickly. By comparison, the previous SPD-SL system features a 15.5° clip-in angle. This improvement is especially beneficial when accelerating from a stop, exiting corners or immediately resuming pedalling during a race.
The pedal body is manufactured from injection-moulded carbon composite, combining low weight with exceptional stiffness. The durable stainless steel contact plate protects the pedal against wear, while the sealed mechanism helps prevent dirt and moisture from reaching the bearings. The entire construction is engineered for long-lasting reliability under demanding training and racing conditions.
The +4 mm extended axle version increases the distance between the pedals, providing additional clearance between the shoe and crank arm. This can benefit riders who prefer a wider stance or require more space between their cycling shoes and cranks. The extended axle configuration allows cyclists to fine-tune their riding ergonomics according to body proportions and pedalling preferences.
The pedals are supplied with yellow Shimano CL-SL110 SPD-SLR cleats, offering 6° of float. This allows the foot to rotate naturally during pedalling, helping reduce unnecessary stress on the knees and ankles while improving riding comfort. The next-generation SPD-SLR cleats are up to 22% lighter than their SPD-SL predecessors. High-contrast positioning markings simplify accurate cleat installation and make it easier to reproduce the preferred position when replacing worn cleats.
Shimano Dura-Ace PD-R9300 pedals feature single-sided engagement and adjustable release tension, allowing riders to customise the force required to disengage their shoes. In addition to the included yellow CL-SL110 cleats, the SPD-SLR system supports red CL-SL100 (0°), blue CL-SL120 (2°) and grey CL-SL130 (6°) cleats, available separately.
Important: Shimano SPD-SLR is a new pedal and cleat interface. SPD-SLR cleats are not compatible with previous SPD-SL pedals, and SPD-SL cleats cannot be used with SPD-SLR pedals. Always verify cycling shoe and cleat compatibility before purchasing.
