The SHIMANO DU-EP801 is a 2nd generation e-bike mid-drive motor designed for demanding e-MTB riding, trail use and technical terrain. With 250 W continuous rated power, 85 N·m maximum torque and up to 600 W maximum power output, it delivers strong yet refined pedal assistance so riders can focus on the trail, maintain momentum and enjoy a natural ride feel.
The DU-EP801 is an updated version of the DU-EP800, offering evolved e-MTB performance and expanded system connectivity. CAN and ACC ports increase system capabilities and help the drive unit integrate more effectively with modern SHIMANO e-bike components and the second-generation battery management system.
The motor provides natural and refined assist delivery. Its light, quiet and more compact construction reduces pedalling drag and helps preserve the bike’s natural feel both with assist power on and off. This is especially important on technical terrain, where precise control and predictable power delivery directly affect rider confidence.
85 N·m of maximum torque delivers powerful support on steep climbs and demanding trail sections. The DU-EP801 provides more consistent climbing speed and better-than-ever acceleration at higher cadences, making it especially effective when pedalling out of corners, powering through transitions and quickly regaining momentum.
The lightweight magnesium body helps keep the motor weight at approximately 2.7 kg, offering a strong balance of power, durability and handling. Low weight and compact dimensions help preserve a sporty e-MTB feel and improve control on climbs, descents and narrow technical sections.
E-TUBE PROJECT provides new customization options and Finetune Mode, allowing riders to adjust motor behaviour according to riding style, trail conditions and personal preference. The motor supports Di2 internal geared hubs and rear derailleurs, as well as electronic shifting by drive unit control.
