E-Bike Motor SHIMANO DU-E8000 1st Generation

The SHIMANO DU-E8000 is a 1st generation e-bike mid-drive motor and SHIMANO’s first drive unit dedicated specifically to e-MTB riding. With 250 W continuous rated power and 70 N·m maximum torque, it is strong enough for the steepest climbs while remaining sensitive enough to deliver the right amount of support with every pedal stroke.

Designed for mountain biking, the DU-E8000 focuses on precise handling, fast response and confident control over changing terrain. It provides immediate and powerful support from the first pedal stroke, helping riders maintain momentum on technical climbs, rocky sections and demanding trail features.

The compact drive unit allows frame designs with a shorter chain stay, helping electric mountain bikes retain geometry and handling close to a normal MTB. The compact construction also creates more clearance around the suspension and tire, an important advantage for modern trail and mountain bike frame designs.

With an approximate weight of 2.8 kg, the DU-E8000 is lighter than the DU-E6002. Its lightweight construction improves bike handling and helps preserve a natural ride feel on steep climbs, fast descents and technical trail sections.

The motor delivers stable, smooth and intuitive assist power, improving bike control over every section of trail. A direct pedalling feel is maintained both with assist power on and off, keeping the ride predictable, controlled and natural in varied riding conditions.

The durable and weather-resistant construction is made for riding in all conditions. The motor is designed to withstand the demands of trail riding and provide reliable assistance when the terrain is wet, muddy or technical.

The DU-E8000 supports Walk, Eco, Trail and Boost assist modes. All assist modes can be customized through the E-TUBE PROJECT app, allowing riders to tune motor behaviour according to terrain, riding style and personal preference.
